Remember though, back at E3 3dfx showed off the whole side-by-side comparison of the GF2 and V56000/5500. Every writeup I can currently remember praised the Voodoo as having superiour image quality and FSAA.
They also showed off Q3 running at the rediculously high 2048x1536x32 at a choppy, though *playable* framerate. This was also in May, four months ago.
1024x768x32 with 4X FSAA and all bells and whistles at 60+ FPS is totally possible.
If I remember correctly, 3dfx themselves claimed that 75 FPS was possible with the same settings.
I guess we'll see, though...
I want high-performance VR goggles over any card. It's time to bring on real VR...
please Carmack?
(old technology was big, new things are meant to be small)
well, I dont want an external power supply or 4 chips.
It seems to 'make shift' and 'shit'
I dont feel sorry for 3dfx, they got lazy and probably sat around all day watching Judge Judy and repeats of Roasanne or something.
Lazy lazy boys

Amazing!
Btw.. Nvidia sux.. 3DFX sux.. S3 Virge Rulz
T&L right now makes no difference in the gaming experience, so people touting it are about as clueless as people that tout pixel shaders or T-Buffer effects.. hehe.
Show me something that is useful today, i.e., FSAA, and you'll show me something that I care about... T&L is a nice thing to think about, but it won't matter to me as a gamer until I can actually get a game that makes me say 'OMFG I NEED a hardware T&L card'...

"Lets say the VSA chips come at a speed of 166Mhz. That means 1.37GPixels/sec. 8 Single textured pixels per clock, 4 Dual textured pixels per clock. In multitexturing mode, it's fillrate would drop to
667MPixels/sec. Now you say that this is lower than the GTS which is at
800Mpixels/sec, or the GTS Ultra which is at 1Gpixel/sec when they
multitexture.
*But*, the V5-6000 will actually have the bandwidth to back up that fillrate whereas we've seen the GF and GTS boards are badly bandwidth limited.
That's why I think in single texturing, the V5-6000 is going to utterly
obliterate the GTS and GTS Ultra, and in multitexturing it will still be a good deal faster. In single texturing the VSA can pump out 8 pixels/clock while the GTS and GTS Ultra can only pump out 4. In multitexturing the V5-600 can pump out 4 pixels/clock while the GTS and GTS Ultra can still only pump out 4, but they are badly bandwidth limited.
Now when you enable 4X FSAA on the V5-6000 during multitexturing it'll drop to where the framerate for 2X is on the 5500 during multitexturing, roughly.
God I want one. The 6000 is definitely going to be much faster than people think, especially due to its super high bandwidth."
