I played CS for 6 months straight and I'm all CS'd out. I don't think I'll ever like that mod again. Beta 5 was the best. 6 was ok after I got used to it. Never liked 6.5 and quit playing. Gave 7 a try and it's no better then 6.5 and it's maybe worse.

I'll be glad when these 17,000 people get tired of CS and start looking for something new to play. Quake3 has'nt even been fully utilized yet. Where's the killer mod for Quake3 at? Maybe the mission pack will raise interest in Quake3. I played it at QuakeCon and it's different.

I played some Quake3 CTF last night and I was amazed by the amount of newbies in there.

People playing using the default name, people joining a server and looking up and down like it's the first time they've ever played the game before. People asking totally newbie questions.

People were stopping to shoot and ducking in the wide open to shoot.

Have you all noticed a lot of new players playing Quake3 if you've played it lately?

Q3's netcode would blow for a CS type game. Unless your an lpb of course which happens to be the people crying about the new HL netcode. I can just see my ping spiking hard when there is a confrontation and having to use only the shotgun cause its the closest thing to splash damage. Weapon sounds before actual firing and this time you can't see the bullets? You know how jerky Q3 netcode is up close? Good luck trying for headshot at someone who is actually behind you but your client shows him in front.
Q3's netcode is bearable for deathmatch. Would not work with CS type play. Well it won't be as good.

Spend your money on a CPU. Everyone getting all hard over video cards that don't do much except for 1024 res and higher (MX blows at high res in comparison to other cards too). If you have a TNT2U and a freaking p2 450, video card is the last thing on your list. Get a p3 something.. oc it to 800 and watch as your TNT2U will get you about a 40 fps increase. I oced my cel 566 to 850 and with everything on (texture detail at second highest)cept for lightmap and the obvious 32-bit color (using the 24-bit color) I used to get 79 fps in demo1 at 640x480 (p2 450 and V3 2k). With the 850 cel it went up to 121 fps. People get all worked up when new benchmarks come out but fail to realize they are benched on the latest fastest CPU. Why buy a card that you aren't even stressing with your CPU. Buy a new CPU get much greater increase in fps then if you are still willing get a new video card that your CPU can allow to strut its stuff. You guys have it all ass backwards.

And those numbers are accurate. I checked the Tribes number and then loaded up Tribes and refreshed the ingame browser and looked in the console and the amount of players was almost exactly the same.

I just ahve one question, what is the industry standard of "playable" framerate,
in q3a timedemo1, Fastest@640*480*16, I get 34FPS, but it looks ugly as hell( im on a 8mb ATI rage pro)
is the 20 to 80 FPS difference just one i'd have to feel/see and then never want to go back? because it seems to play fine for me now
