InXile Entertainment has announced previous crowdfunding backers and anyone who purchased the original edition of Wasteland 2 will be receiving the Game of the Year edition when it releases in late summer.

Wasteland 2 Game of the Year Edition will include a number of improvements both existing fans and new players can enjoy, such as improved environmental textures, character models, and Physically Based Rendering that offers more impressive lighting. Enhancements to gameplay are also included, such as the inclusion of new Perks & Quirks, a new Precision Strike system, an overhauled game balance, item drops, and reworked combat encounters throughout the game.

InXile has also included thousands of lines of new voice-over to the GOTY Edition of Wasteland 2 that will help make this the most immersive experience yet. “We wanted to re-affirm our gratitude to our backers and our dedication to RPG fans, as we have been most fortunate to return to our roots,” says InXile CEO Brian Fargo. “We plan to continue our proud tradition with Bard’s Tale IV, which we’ll crowdfund later this year.”

We had the chance to interview InXile's project lead Chris Keenan about the GOTY Edition of Wasteland 2, which is expected to also hit consoles this summer. Feel free to check out what he had to share for yourself here.

With the addition of controller support maybe I'll finally give this a fair shake. I backed it on kickstarter and have maybe put 2 hours of time into it so far since it runs like poop on my laptop.

I don't see that in the article, but heard they were doing it. Is that going to be in this version?

As a KS backer of this, I'm glad they are going to give us all these new enhancements that they are doing for the GOTY and console versions, good way to take care of the backers.

For whatever reason GOTY edition now means the version of the game with all of the updates and DLC. They probably could have just called it something like the Deluxe Edition but the games industry is dumb so there you go.

Hah really? I had no idea there was such a shift.

I knew GOTY is a marketing thing but usually there's some kind of popular consensus on it. This seems totally pulled out of their ass. Though your explanation clears it up I guess. Thanks.

There was a middling 2K game a couple years ago that re-released as a game of the year version. I forget what it was but I want to say Mafia or something. It was like come on...

Well it was a game and came out in a year, so it's not entirely wrong
