Midnight Reading

A little late, but at least you didnt knock her up. here's some of that midnight reading stuff for those oh so exciting holiday weekends. Be careful though, you never know about those news items you see late at night on the weekends. You might wanna double bag it:

- ZDNet is carrying a story about the future of the internet, specifically the year 2004 which I'm pretty sure isnt all that far away. - Seems the post office is still pretty upset about that whole 'going postal' slang. They even did a comprehensive study (heh) to prove that post office workers are normal. - Hey look, even more Pentium4 benchmarks. Intel seems pretty upset about these things getting leaked but they are popping up in more places now it seems.
The big ECTS show is about to kick off in London so things might get a bit more interesting around here tomorrow. There may be a few surprises (I havent gotten anything confirmed)

It's stable and puts in 12 - 14 hours a day with no reboots. This is on a 400 Celeron running at 600 too.

Almost 14 hours and it would have made it too. I'm going to bed though, so gotta turn it off cause it's too noisy. Maybe someday, solid state hard drivers, no fan for the power supply or video card. No case fan. Nice and quiet then. :)

See you all in about 10 - 12 hours.

    Later.

  • I heard there is SSE code in the nvidia drivers, but of course a nvidia card on an athlon wont do it.

infact one web site ibxt labs i think used "the latest" amd agp / chipset patches and fixes on 98SE and got a t-bird to beat a p3 at the same clock speed

plus the ddr t-birds will beat the p3 anyhow (q3 that is)
also the via chipsets even when optomised with correct drivers, perform like shit vs a bx, it's just a nice chipset.

since intel "geniunely" recoomend actual i820 / i810e chipsets for their cpu's @ 133fsb, and SDRAM should be used to keep it fair (based on price here people price).... the intel platforms for benchmarking q3 shoould be

    X intel cpu @ 133mhz fsb
    133mhz sdram
    i820 chipset
XX video card @ 66mhz agp (most likely a nvidia)

    and the amd setup
    X amd cpu @ 200mhz ddr cpu -> chipset
133mhz sdram on kt133 board with 133mhz ram option (not the slowing down 100mhz ram option)
    kt chipset
XX video card @ 66mhz agp (most likely a nvidia)

latest drivers for both and bios's and you should find the amd platform alot closer to the intel one

133mhz bx is WRONG not the right way of doing things, can cause instability and it's stressing AGP components, that's why q3 is almost always quicker on your p31ghz vs amd 1ghz
