Report: New Guitar Hero will have redesigned guitar and first-person perspective

Activision is expected to announce a new Guiar Hero today, but information on the game has apparently been leaked detailing a new controller, first-person perspective, and more.

Activision is preparing to make a big game announcement later today at a media-only event, although it appears the game is going to be a new Guitar Hero game, according to a recently published leak.

According to the Le Monde which is syndicated to Yahoo France, the new Guitar Hero is being developed by FreeStyleGames, the studio behind the DJ Hero series, and will feature a first-person perspective feature as well as a completely redesigned guitar controller that has two rows of three keys. Additional details, such as its launch date and cost, weren’t leaked, so we’ll just have to see if Activision has that information for us during this morning’s event.

With Harmonix announcing they’re bringing back Rock Band this year, we’re not at all surprised to hear Activision will be doing the same with their Guitar Hero franchise. Neither game has been launched, and we already fear our closets will once again be filled with large, plastic instruments.

[Update: Mashable's Chelsea Stark uploaded an Instagram video of how the new guitar controller functions during play. As this report said, it has two rows with three inputs on each row.

Guitar Hero's new controller, with two rows of frets. It was pretty fun to try.

How much more "first person" can the perspective get?

"...and the answer is none. None more first-person perspective".

Once again, Activision DOES NOT GET IT, when you compare this to Rock Band 4's approach of maximizing backwards compatability.

The only hope I do have is that this is by the DJ Hero devs, who knew how to add more flair to the game.

Ugh. There' a new Guitar Hero game coming out too?

On top of that, I get a huge early-days-of-CD-ROM-FMV vibe from that whole video.

Harmonix totally supports Rocksmith for those that really want to learn how to play; in announcing RB4 and that they were dropping the pro guitar modes, they name dropped Rocksmith as a fully qualified guitar learning tool.

Yeah, it's nowhere close to being the perfect learning tool, and because it's still using some bit of A/D conversion to figure out how good you're playing, it's not as precise either. But Harmonix felt that Rocksmith was filling the void their pro mode was filling in a way that works as well, totally supporting that game for those types of players.

I think that looks like it would be pretty entertaining. The GB guys got to play it so I'll be interested to see what their impressions are. If Jeff doesn't say it is "hot fucking garbage" that means it's actually going to be pretty good.
