Fans of the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series were given something to be excited about over the weekend. Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2 announced that the fighter based on the popular Japanese anime would get its next installment here in North America later this year. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 will be the first installment of the series to officially leave the old generation of consoles behind and come to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 will see Naruto take on the threat of the many clones of the Ten-Tails. The fighting styles from Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 will be revamped, with players able to utilize Ultimate Jutsu, Awakening, and Drive types. Players will be able to utilize more than one of these styles in a single match, with characters able to switch between Ultimate Jutsu and Awakening, for example. New combinations, such as a Naruto x Sasake Ultimate Jutsu and a Hyuga Clan Combination Ultimate Jutsu, will make their debut, as well.

"Another new system is called 'Change Leader' system," CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama said via a translator during Friday's Bandai Namco Global Games presentation. "Usually in the 'Storm' series, players select one leader character and two support characters, and those support characters just come in to support the lead character by unleashing a Jutsu attack and going back. But now, a player can switch the support character as a lead character."

Matsuyama clarified that all characters would share a single health bar, so while Change Leader will allow players to sub in a support character that could prove a better match-up against a particular opponent, it does not mean that the player's health bar will be refreshed.

Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 will also include new playable characters (like Hanabi Hyuga), Wall Actions, and (as the trailer below indicates) tentacle-rail riding action. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is set to release this fall.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
