Mortal Kombat X is not set to release until next week, but NetherRealm Studios is releasing the game's launch trailer this morning. While the trailer further sets the stage for the game's big Story Mode, there's also a whole lot of fighting set to the familiar hard rock sounds of System of a Down hit "Chop Suey." And few know more about System of a Down than System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian.

The long-time System bassist is taking his first turn at directing a game trailer and you can check out his efforts below. There's also a behind-the-scenes 'making of' video, showing off Odadjian's work editing the game's clips to flow in tune with the classic System of a Down music.

It's almost time. Mortal Kombat X arrives on April 14.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
