Titanfall 2 confirmed by Respawn CEO; will be multiplatform

Respawn Entertainment's CEO has confirmed the studio is currently working on Titanfall 2, which will be a multiplatform game this time around.

Respawn Entertainment and CEO Vince Zampella has confirmed Titanfall 2 is currently in development and will be released on multiple platforms, instead of just on Microsoft platforms as was the case with the original Titanfall.

The confirmation comes way of IGN who spoke with Zampella about the game, and for the first time, confirming its existence. "I guess EA announced a sequel, so I could play coy and pretend I don't know anything about it, or… yeah. So we're working on a sequel,” Zampella said. “No official name yet, but we're working on that. That's the main focus but we're starting up a second team and doing some smaller stuff too. Small, exploratory, taking it slow! It'll be multiplatform."

Zampella promised Titanfall 2 would expand on the lore of the series, although it’s unclear whether or not the game would be yet another multiplayer-only game. "I wouldn't have done it differently," Zampella continued when asked about the original's multiplayer-only approach. "We set out to do it and it was one of our goals. I mean it obviously prohibits a certain group of people playing the game, and as content creators you want to get into as many peoples’ hands as possible. We put some single-player elements in there though, and tried to mix it up. Maybe we could have mixed things up a bit better because some people blew right by it and didn't even see it because there was so much action happening around it.”

If they add a campaign, I'm in. This was almost the game that pushed me to buy an XBOne instead of a ps4, but they killed it with the multiplayer only thing.

100% this ^^^^ I as well hope so hard core that they make a SP campaign, to me its what naturally they should add to their IP and be right up there with Halo etc.

Cool news, makes sense one did very well.

Yep. Only reason I never bought it. I am not a competitive gamer, but god damn do I want to stomp around in a mech!

I'd prefer they keep the team slim and keep their focus narrow. Even if the SP campaign was great, it will be dropped so quickly. (to be fair the majority playerbase dropped it decently quick)

Not interested in single player Titanfall at all. Same with Battlefield. I don't get why people are so hard for another dumb campaign. I'm glad they had a singular focus on the first one.

I'd buy it if it had bots

yup, only occasionally I dabble in MP (last was BF3) but it always ends when ass-hats greifing and spawn-camping sapping the fun out of it, and I just hate it. However a meaty SP game, ah- wonderful.

Get rid of autoaiming dumb pistols for the PC (or anything where it's PvP, and not Co-op) and I'm sold.

Basically, I'm semi-ok with autoaiming weapons for Co-op, where it's just you and allies vs bots, so long as it's not so overpowered (like it currently is) that other weapons aren't really viable. But it shouldn't be in there for competitive multiplayer.

Also, add destructible environments so that titans can really wreak havoc.

Auto pistol was pretty weak against players in Titanfall though. It felt cheap when you were on the other end of it for sure but the reality is you would have died faster if the guy was using any other gun in the same situation.

I feel this way as well, the smart pistols have very limited range, and playing against someone that can aim you should lose everytime.

The smart pistol is a must have for FD.

Yeah, or they could just make the other weapons more viable, which is what I was talking about. For FD, the smart pistol is too convenient. I wish there were other options that made just as much sense. But my kill count with the smart pistol was always insane in FD compared to smg's, rifles, etc.

Spitfire works great in FD . The real key though is triple threat Titan win the mines version. Rips through guys.

First game was decent, but got overly repetitive very quickly. The monetization strategy that the CoD clones entail doesn't really help their case either.

They need to get rid of AI bots, improve animations and add more variety to weapons

He's talking about the NPC grunts, not the Titans on auto-pilot.

I agree that the grunts are definitely the worst part of the game. They're distracting, and they're boring. Hopefully they make pilot movement faster too. The maps feel too big for pilot play sometimes.

The only way I'd be OK with them coming back is if they gave pilots control of squads of them.

can i ask why you like the AI bots? they pretty much ruined the game for me. I could never tell the difference between a bot and a human until after the human killed me. found that frustrating.

If you play more it becomes way more obvious. It also gives more objectives than just killing pilots. It also makes the battlefield feel alive and busy.

you win by farming the shit out of the bots. it was the funnest part. I got super good at just flying across the map on attrition and melting AI dudes.

No WAY you get rid of the NPC players. That's a really nice mechanic that I would personally like to see more of in online shooters.

Definitely. It makes the level feel more like a "real" battle instead of just 12 dudes shooting at each other. It's one of the best features, IMO, and something I want to see in more games for sure.

If Origin prevents you from enjoying a game, then I think you need to lighten up. Not speaking to you directly, H2OAu, but Origin haters in general.

Titanfall died on PC because it wasn't on Steam. Sure, it's sales were good, but it needed the population and transparency of Steam to last.

It doesnt, I have Origin, its fine. I just like Steam better for screenshots, friendslist etc. Heck I've got 40 hours or so in Titanfall. I'd just prefer Steam and I think it'd also keep player counts up. Still a man can dream!

I thought I read somewhere that Zampella said he regrets that the original wasn't on Steam and felt like it hurt their sales or the size of their sustained playerbase or something. Although I guess if EA are publishing again, he probably doesn't have a choice.
