Sort Of Support for Napster

by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 28, 2000 3:41pm PDT

Yahoo News has a Reuters story about the latest in the Napster injunction case. Several trade groups, representing such companies as AT&T and Yahoo, have filed briefs with concerns about the injuction. According to the trade groups the courts need to revise some of the models for intellectual property protection because old rules shouldn't automatically apply here.

``There is a lot of need for intellectual property protection but we have many instances in the industry where people are trying to overprotect to the disadvantage of the public and to legitimate businesses trying to compete,'' Ed Black, president of the CCIA, told Reuters on Monday.
It isn't so much these groups want to support Napster but they want the court to look at other reasons besides just the intellectual property protections.
