Shacknews loves its arcades and arcade cabinets. Because of that, we're taking a look into some of the best arcade cabinets of the past and offering a bit of a history lesson with Shack's Arcade Corner.

Join our own Greg Burke as he examines one of the best arcade classics of the late 20th century, the four-player beat-em-up, Captain America and the Avengers. Long before Joss Whedon made a cinematic masterpiece with Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Data East turned the Captain America-led team into fun brawler with some of best action and worst voice acting you'll hear in an arcade game.

Check out our look at Captain America and the Avengers below.

Golden axe, TMNT, X-men, Simpsons, were the best multiplayer arcade games I spent so much money on TMNT

It was fun, but the zenith to me was probably gauntlet for being first and 6 player X-Men for just being SIX PLAYERS (and a pretty cool soundtrack too).

      Long live the quarter gobblers!

Cool new feature! I'd love to see these done a bit more in-depth. :)

Captain America and the Avengers was a super fun game. There wasn't much to it, but it was one of the first four-player beat 'em ups and fun all the way.

Don't forget Spiderman vs. The Kingpin, that was another classic. I was a big fan of the multiplayer arcade brawlers too...Ninja Kids, Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder and the hilarious Crime Fighters stick out in my mind when not thinking of the standards like X-Men, The Simpsons and the NInja Turtles games...
