Mythbusters, the TV show that puts popular stories to the test, is stepping into the world of video games this weekend. On January 31st, the Adam and Jamie will find out if it's really possible to carry everything that the player has in Doom, including armor, guns, and a chainsaw. They'll even play through a level recreated in real life using the Doom 3 BFG Edition for reference. It's unclear how they'll reproduce the weight of items like the Plasma Gun or the legendary BFG, but we're dying to find out. Tim Willits, creative director at id Software, will help the Mythbusters team with the details as Hell is let loose on earth... in a perfectly controlled testing environment, of course.

The episode of Mythbusters will air on the Discovery Channel this Saturday, January 31st, at 9/8c.

So far the new format of the show is "Are Cartoons, movies, and video games real?" It seems they threw out science and just started pandering to nerds.

Have you watched it? Because while they're certainly pandering to nerds, there's more science onscreen than ever before.

Not yet. I have it on the DVR. Waiting for the wife to go to work and I was going to check one out.

Yeah, and honestly, I like Adam and Jaime's dynamic more than the three others that they nixed anyway. Those three were fun sometimes but it feels more focused with one team. That said, uglysad has a point. The "This Movie/TV Show/Whatever" special used to be a once-a-season thing, but this season it's been literally every episode so far.

Some of it is neat, like the whip stuff. I wish they would have tested the weight transfer mechanism. I get that they're pretty much exhausted standard urban myths. But, I'm kinda with you on they need to dial by what used to be a once per season thing.

They were all good as a group when they tackled portions of a larger problem/myth

While there is more science that before, and really less focus on just blowing stuff up, I kinda feel they're still downplaying the science a bit. The last episode with the A-Team stuff really missed some opportunities to explain stuff if you hadn't ever seen some of their earlier episodes - why did the canon explode, why air to fuel ratios, more detail about stoppers behind the ammo, etc. And no mention of methane gas in the sewer and maybe why that might not have mattered anyways, etc. So much missed opportunities.

The Simpsons one is really good and I liked the toilet cherry bomb bit.

Meh, too much colored lighting. Look like they are testing Quake 2!
