The Sims 4 is going free on EA’s Origin service as a part of their Game Time promotion, which allows its users to be able to access retail titles for free for a limited time.

The Sims 4 will be available to play for free for a total of 48 hours after you download and launch the game, so it’s best not to dilly dally. Origin members will be given unrestricted access to The Sims 4, allowing them to check out some of the new tools in the game like Build Mode and Create-A-Sim. Progress in The Sims 4 will be saved, allowing those who enjoy their experience to pick up right where they left off if they purchase the retail version of the game.

EA has been releasing regular updates to The Sims 4 that allows players to partake in a pool party and partake in new careers. Sims can even take a retreat from their everyday lives to the great outdoors, although the Outdoor Retreat pack is the first piece of DLC that you need to pay for.

I wouldn't call it "free" so much as "able to be played for 48 hours". I like the way steam calls it " free weekend.". Doesn't make the game sound like it's free permanently.

Or perhaps "free for 48 hours". Because that's what it is. "able to be played for 48 hours" is more misleading, because it is playable after that 48 hours also. Just not for free. Hence the "free for 48 hours".

Will try it again. Going to see if the load times improved among other things.

I've never played 1 second of any Sims game. Worth the download?

Wow, the sales on this thing must be horrible. That's what happens when you go all Activision and start chopping up the game and taking out content that was there since the inception of the game. In fact Sims for plays more like Sims 1 than Sims 3. Epic FAIL!

Just because a game goes free doesn't necessarily mean its sales are poor.

Howwever, we do know how good a game is doing when a company announces sales numbers.

How is this 48 hour thing any different than releasing a demo? I suppose it gives you access to the whole game for that 48 hours instead of artificially cutting it off somewhere, but really it's just a demo period. Liked what you saw while you had access for free? Buy the game to keep playing. Nothing wrong with that.
