Halo: Master Chief Collection opens beta testing for future updates

343 Industries will be making beta versions of its upcoming content updates of Halo: MCC available starting later this week.

343 Industries has been extremely hard at work in an attempt to keep its promise of what Halo: The Master Chief Collection should be. The development studio has been releasing updates for the title on a somewhat regular basis, and starting today, it’ll be inviting select members of the Xbox One Preview program to beta test upcoming content updates.

The reason for the expansion beyond its normal beta-testing channels is due to the “scale of the update” as well as to ensure the official release offers the best possible experience for players. The upcoming patch will include the usual tweaks to matchmaking and party system changes and 343 Industries will share more details when we get closer to its official release.

For those interested in beta testing the Halo: MCC content updates, you’ll need to be located in North America, be a part of the Xbox One Preview program, and have a copy of the game, obviously. 343 Industries will select participants based on their level of engagement with the game. If you’re chosen, you should be able to download the update starting as early as January 23.

I don't know about you, but considering how much 343 Industries botched the release of Halo: MCC, I would be extremely cautious to try out beta versions of their upcoming content updates. I think I'd prefer to download stable releases in this case, but hey, that's just me.

The MCC was the reason I bought the XB1 over the PS4. Overall, I'm glad I still got the XB1 first due to the DLNA, and some other features, but being a huge Halo fan this was 100% not acceptable. I tried to play match making last night and couldn't find a game for almost 7min.

If you liked their gold master code then you'll LOVE their beta code.

Don't a lot of devs do this? Like the PTR for WoW, or the test servers for BF4? I'm just not feeling the outrage here.

PC devs do testing on test servers (and rarely a console game).

They difference here is: They don't do it for games that are already out and entirely broken. MCC is still broken, and was released even more broken.

PTRs are for PC games that are testing upcoming patches, mainly to give mods developers time to adjust to the new changes and players time to find issues with any exploits or test raid balance. They don't test bug fixing patches to a released game.

Because, your patches are supposed to fucking work. As is your game. That's why people are expressing themselves about this. This is not about testing a new raid. This is about testing bug fixes that should have been in the shipped game.

yah the game clearly shipped months before it was ready... they basically shipped early to hit the Xmas holiday season.

Didn't BF4 test some bug fixing patched to a released game. That said I do find it surprising that MCC is this broken when Halo has in my fairly limited experience a very high quality series. I feel bad for the fans even if I may never play this version.

But hey you'll get reach for free right? Just as broken as the rest of it.

What? Dude, BF4 CTE? Star Citizen PTU? Elite is going to be running lots of point-release betas?

is it the worst release of a game in 2014? Is it worse than Unity?

By far. I was able to play and finish Unity. It may have been a not so pleasant experience involving frame rates and story but it worked. Heck, multiplayer worked almost flawlessly in comparison.
