Xbox One price drops to $349 once again starting January 16

For those holding out for another Xbox One price drop, your time is approaching once more.

The Xbox One had a great holiday season, spurred on by its $349 pricing promotion. It was such a good deal that some of our Shacknews community members wondered why Microsoft would ever let the price cut lapse? After briefly allowing the price to rise back up, Microsoft has apparently had a change of heart and will restore the $349 price point starting tomorrow.

"Building off a record-setting holiday, we are excited to announce a new promotion in which fans in the U.S. can buy an Xbox One at a special price of $349, starting tomorrow, January 16, from their preferred retailer," Corporate Vice President of Marketing for Xbox Mike Nichols said on Xbox Wire. "We are thankful for all the excitement for Xbox One this holiday and proud to offer more fans the amazing games lineup, Xbox Live gaming community, and continual innovation that Xbox One fans have come to enjoy."

No word on what this means for anyone that purchased an Xbox One in the last 12 days, but for those holding out for another price cut, the time to strike appears to be tomorrow.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

lol I predicted they'd try it for a quarter at $399. According to Ars they lasted all of 12 days.

It looks like making the console cheaper has made it more attractive to buyers

      haha

I hope they spent millions in market research to come to that conclusion.

Only on the Shack would the announcement of a drop in price of a gaming console be meet with jeers instead of cheers.

I would like to get a second one for my office, but I am waiting for another special edition color. I have a white PS4 in there and I would like to get a white one of these. I am still kind of surprised they didn't have a special edition that was a larger release than the Sunset Overdrive limited run.

Saw today at Best Buy that the Kinect version is still selling for $499.

If that doesn't drop, it will kill the Kinect completely. No one is going to pay $150 extra for it.
