WildStar aiming for shorter game sessions in 2015

Carbine Studios is looking into ways to make WildStar better for all players and that includes a focus on shorter sessions.

There was an air of excitement for WildStar's release in 2014. Unfortunately, if subscriber feedback is any indication, much of that enthusiasm has died down. Carbine Studios is well aware of this, so as they prepare to release the upcoming Protogames Initiative update, the studio is outlining its plans for 2015 as a whole. Part of those plans include turning WildStar into a friendlier experience for those that want a shorter game session.

"Looking further ahead into 2015, we will ramp up shorter-session (30-45 minute) gaming content. The intent is to give players something they can do more quickly in game that still delivers a sense of accomplishment (and meaningful loot)," WildStar product director Mike Donatelli said on the WIldStar website. This includes a new Contract system that will offer short objectives for rare rewards and a revised leveling system that includes overhauls to combat fatigue and reward distribution. Those that do enjoy longer sessions can also look forward to a new 20-person raid that will be detailed soon.

The Protogames Initiative update is set to arrive soon, which will further feed into WildStar's focus on a lower barrier of entry. Look for additional details prior to its launch.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
