Alien: Isolation adds Nightmare and Novice difficulties

New difficulties modes for Alien: Isolation are available now and they're both naughty and nice.

There are just a few of you out there that feel that Alien: Isolation might be too easy. Yes, there are actually folks that not only have survived the Xenomorph's hunt, but also think it's too easy. It sounds like crazy talk, but they exist. So Sega and The Creative Assembly are about to fix those people good with a free update that amps up the difficulty to masochistic levels.

The new Nightmare Mode ups the Alien AI to outrageous levels, but it'll also handicap the player in several ways. The motion tracker will be broken, resources will be limited, and the map will be completely offline. Worse yet, the other hostiles on-board will be even harder to deal with. Not so easy now, is it, Mr. Too Easy Guy?

Oh, now it's too hard, you say? Well, for those looking to take it a little easier, there's also a new Novice mode. Players will be granted more resources, on-board hostiles will be a little easier to address, and the Xenomorph's AI will be dumbed down to Colonial Marines levels. (Ok, maybe not that harsh, but it'll be more forgiving.)

The new difficulties levels are available now on all platforms as part of today's free update.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

You get weapon-type items like flares and such, but they're only used for distractions. You cannot kill the Alien.

Nightmare mode must be near impossible. I'm playing on hard and there's already no room for mistakes.

it's just a constant flood of aliens, through the doors, skylights, picture windows, doggy doors, plumbing, electrical grind, etc

Only once on hard here, but want more also. I spent much of that playthrough crouched, and imagine nightmare will require near constant crouch

i feel like the Alien would get really frustrated after a while like WTF I KNOW SOMEONE IS HERE WHY CAN'T I FIND THEM and just start running the map at full-speed, screaming constantly, just ripping locker doors apart on basic principle, I CAN SMELL YOU, MOTHERFUCKER

Yeah, the built AA method is pretty ugly most of the time. Especially with glass objects.
