Street Fighter 5 will feature cross-platform play between PC and PS4

Street Fighter V was officially revealed today and will come with a very notable new feature.

Ok, I stand corrected. Sony and Capcom did, in fact, officially announce Street Fighter V at this morning's PlayStation Experience event. And it took Capcom's Yoshinori Ono to drop a major bombshell.

The game will not only hit PlayStation 4 and PC, but the game will fully support cross-platform play, meaning each version can face one another in one-on-one combat. We also saw early gameplay footage for the first time, showing destructible environments and more of the Street Fighter action that fans have come to love.

Sony made sure to emphasize that SF5 will only be on PlayStation 4 and will remain the only console version on the market. To see more on SF5, check out the videos below.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

MK should match the pc / ps4 crossplay and add xb1.

The interesting question is this: you can play SF4 at 144hz on the PC. I'm pretty sure the PS4 Street Fighter 5 won't have this option.

Won't the games be more responsive for PC players? I don't mind, but I'm just curious about how that will work out.

        That's 4

Isn't the responsiveness dictated by the least common denominator? So if you connect with somebody using a 56k modem in the Andes you're hosed regardless of how fast you PC is.

SF4 is always 60fps. Your refresh rate can be 144hz, but only 60 frames are rendered. So SF4 actually looks best at 60hz.

It would be cool if they made SF5 120hz compatible though. That would give PC a slight leg up but nothing game-breaking.

I'd guess that 2X the responsiveness would be more than a slight leg up.

Wow. I didn't expect the PS4 exclusive to be permanent.

They certainly did come right out and say "This exclusive is forever," which is not what I was expecting to hear. I thought it would have been a similar deal as Tomb Raider.

Does Capcom have some beef with Microsoft? Sony must be putting up a lot of cash to make this exclusive.

Maybe xbox doesn't like or can't support the crossplay. Otherwise, that's a reasonable audience to lose for capcom.

It also doesn't help that the XB1 is selling much worse than the 360 did in Japan

Wow, that's not a bad idea for a fighting game. Those cross-compatibility promises have been around quite often in the past though and usually they don't pan out by release.

Nice, let the console gamers get a dose of proper online cheating. The decreased input lag will help the PC though. Cross platform gaming is nice but not for twitch games.
