Sony is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of the original PlayStation by unveiling a special 20th Anniversary Edition PlayStation 4 that borrows much of its aesthetics from the company’s first video game console.

The 20th Anniversary Edition PlayStation 4 comes in the “Original Grey” color the original PlayStation came in, which also includes the DualShock 4 and camera. The console itself features the multi-colored PlayStation logo that was displayed on the original console’s top, as well as small etchings of the controller’s face buttons.

The special edition PS4 will be available in an extremely limited quantity as only 12,300 units will be available for worldwide release. A small, aluminum plate will be included on a corner of the console to display what numbered unit you own. I’m sure both the first and last units of this limited release will be huge collectibles.

If you’d like to get your hands on this special edition PlayStation 4, Sony asks that you tune in to the opening keynote from this weekend’s PlayStation Experience to learn more. The keynote takes place on December 6 at 1pm ET / 10am PT. Just be sure to have your wads of cash in hand while you’re watching as I’m sure this is going to cost way more than a normal PS4 package.

I understand the appeal, but man that is ugly as hell.

That's a really uninspired design. I get that the original Playstation wasn't exactly pretty to look at, but I'm sure they could have put more though into this than "make it gray and slap the old logo on it"

1 of 12300? Seems like a weird number to produce.

limited run... might be worth just buying it and keeping it boxed up. Selling it a few years down the road for a TON!

Ugly but nostalgic. Very tempting considering I don't already have one.

Sucks to be whoever gets 00001/12300 as it's already been opened

Funny considering you still can't play psx or ps2 or ps3 games on it without their shitty PS now service.

Now that would've been an awesome way to celebrate. Release that styled console but with backwards compatibility. Though it would've been really expensive.

Release only the casing that you can stick the old consoles inside if it.

I love this look. Especially the colored logo. I just bought the white PS4 (hasn't arrived yet), and if this wasn't a limited edition thing I would return the white one for this. PS1 is definitely one of the best looking consoles of all time.

If be happy with a PS4 that looked like a giant bloody dick, at least I'd have a PS4.

They should just make it look exactly like a larger PS1 case down to a pop-top blu-ray drive.
