According to Nintendo's Japanese website, it looks like the Nintendo 3DS XL's could be on its way out in the region.

Nintendo will reportedly discontinue the original 3DS XL in Japan according to new details spotted on Nintendo’s website.

According to Siliconera, the Japanese website for the Nintendo 3DS XL has an “ending production soon” notice across several colors for the handheld. Even though Nintendo hasn’t made any official announcements regarding the discontinuation of the 3DS XL, having such a notice posted on the official website should be a clear indication of the handheld’s exit from the market.

With the release of the New 3DS, I could understand why Nintendo would want to shift its focus to the newer handheld instead of supporting both. Meanwhile, we here in the US and our friends over in Europe have yet to get their official releases of the New 3DS. We know it’s only a matter of time until Nintendo introduces the handheld to additional markets, and if the reported discontinuation of the 3DS XL is any indiciation, we could possibly be seeing the New 3DS sooner, rather than later.
