3dfx's Gigapixel Card
by Steve Gibson, Aug 24, 2000 3:54pm PDTWell I guess its never too early to start looking at new hardware eh? This bit over on 3DConcepts takes a look at the upcoming 3dfx cards using technology the scored in the gigapixel acquisition. The info is taken from a powerpoint presentation given by 3dfx a while ago showing the 'Disruptive' Gigapixel 3D technology in early stages. Amazingly the new chip is using less transistors and has a smaller die size but improved performance. A change of pace from 3dfx's recent history scaling architecture. Thanks anewman Note that this is not the Rampage card, you can look at the early specs of that card here.

It's not the only way, but it sure is the fastest way.
I keep thinking it would be cool in the future if there were dedicated chips for all sorts of stuff, a dedicated AI chip for instance would be pretty cool.
BTW those Glaze3d shots were total BS. The only non pre-rendered shot was the Quake 3 FSAA, and we have that now.

I bet it will be expensive just because 3dfx can't afford to sell it cheap.
Dammit!
