Insomniac Games has made a number of changes to Sunset Overdrive today, which includes a new weapon pack, changes to Chaos Squad, Player Voting support, and the launch of the game's official soundtrack.

Sunset Overdrive will be receiving a number of additional pieces of content starting today that offers players additional weapons, the option to affect the game world through their votes, additional Chaos Squad features, and even a soundtrack offer.

A new weapon pack will be made available today that features a total of four different weapons for $4.99, although Season Pass holders will be able to receive the pack for free. The weapons are the Plague Bomb, Rager, Shield Buddy, and Multi-Lock Rocket Launcher and their descriptions are as follows:

  • Plague Bomb – Instantly intoxicate enemies in the area with this weapon. Enemies hit with the Plague Bomb will start vomiting, take damage over time and explode when killed. Plus, enemies affected by the Plague Bomb can spread the disease to others!
  • Rager – Releases a confusion-inducing cloud which causes enemies to attach each other in a fit of rage. And yes, they also explode when killed (sense a bit of a theme here?).
  • Shield Buddy – Activates a shield that protects you and your friends but also deploys bombs that will decimate your foes. No need to choose between offense and defense when you can have both with the Shield Buddy.
  • Multi-Lock Rocket Launcher – The most literal of the weapons included in the pack, the Multi-Lock Rocket Launcher does exactly that and locks on up to eight targets. Release the trigger and send a legion of homing rockets at your enemies.

Chaos Squad players will be able to take advantage of two big changes Insomniac has made to Sunset Overdrive’s multiplayer mode. From now until 11:59pm ET on Monday 1, players will be able to earn 27.9 times more OverCharge than before as well as be able awarded the ProPain Launcher more frequently.

Insomniac is also inviting Sunset Overdrive players to vote on upcoming content update and changes on a bi-weekly basis. Players will be able to vote on new outfits and “game-changes” through a new Player Voting feature that can be accessed via Sunset TV. The first Player Vote will offer a choice between Buck National and Floyd, with the winning character having their outfit given to players as a free preset as well as that very character being prominently featured in the second story-based DLC.

Last, but not least, those who became fans of Sunset Overdrive’s soundtrack can head on over to iTunes, Spotify or other digital distribution platforms to pick up the “Best of Sunset Overdrive Music” soundtrack. The soundtrack features a total of 18 tracks from bands like Boats!, Bass Drum of Death, Meat Market, and Cheap Time.

Man! That’s a lot of content for Sunset Overdrive. I might have to fire up my copy once again to check out all of the additional improvements. Although I personally wasn’t a fan of the game’s soundtrack. It was just too busy for my eardrums. I’ll take Michael Bublé any day.
