Hyrule Warriors will get Amiibo support

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U won't be the only game to get Amiibo support when the figures launch in November.

Nintendo has been quiet about Amiibo figure support, other than the fact that the figurines will fully be supported with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. No other games had been specifically mentioned for Amiibo support, but that is changing today.

Nintendo of America jumped on Twitter (via Joystiq) to announce that the Link figurine will work with Hyrule Warriors, making it the first non-Smash Bros. game to confirm Amiibo support. Specific functionality was not given, nor did the company announce whether Zelda and Sheik figures would see similar support, given that they're also playable characters. But if nothing else, this seems to indicate that Nintendo is fairly serious about implementing Amiibo support with their first-party licenses.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
