Dolphin Not Star Cube?

Looks like Nintendo isn't calling their next console Star Cube after all. According to a new IGN site, the real name of what has been known as the Dolphin until know is the Nintendo Game Cube. Or N-Cube for short.

IGNcube contacted Nintendo for comment, but the company's executives are all en route to Tokyo, Japan for the kick-off of the Space World show, which begins August 24.
During this show Nintendo will be showing the new console and we'll finally get confirmed just what the name is. If it is the Game Cube it's still kinda goofy but at least they dropped the Star part. Thanks avixe. update Jack - Sigh... Remind me to smack the metamphetamines out of Maarten's hand next time I see him. Take this report with a grain of salt. Space World is coming up, and all of the Nintendo press is making rampant speculation over the name of Dolphin. None of this has been confirmed by anyone, and the "press" are all writing highly authentic sounding reports so if they are right, they'll be like "well of course we were right." But the truth is that if you scratch the surface of these reports, you'll just get more surface. And no, I don't know the final name either, so don't ask.

    star cube, cube, ncube?

personally, i dont care what it is called. has anyone checked out what people actually know about this thing? go look at http://cube.ign.com/hardware/212.html and see for yourself. the media will be "Matsushita unique mini-disc DVD technology", but i can remember reading in nintendo power about 7 years ago, how nintendo was making a cdrom system and blah blah blah, years later, another cartridge system.

i just cant have confidence with a company like nintendo. i will be the first to admit that they have made some of the best games of the 90's. but they really put the final nail in thier coffin when they refused to use cdrom as the media on the N64. as a result, sony got all the final fantasy games, more attention from ea sports, and new respect from many adult gamers. (truth be told, there was a FF7 game in development for the N64, but square pulled out shortly after for the playstation because a cart would have to be small, or have a HUGE price tag, remember neo geo games?)

not that i will completely exclue the possibility of one day getting a "cube" (or whatever they actually call it.), its just that for the time being, i see nintendo's decision to exclude a dvd drive that plays movies, and the fact that the N64 is really a kids system not a good sign for what the cube may become.
