10 Questions with CliffyB
by Marcus Yam, Aug 09, 1999 5:12am PDTSamHell under this ole' Shack interviews CliffyB, one of the guys working away on maps for Unreal Tournament. Hey, with ice skating partially under control, they're on their way right? What about the demo?
Q: In all seriousness......how close is Epic to releasing a UT demo?
A: The game is done, but we are just testing and improving our net code. Make a new rev, send it to our remote testing force, test, improve, repeat.

Ok, so when id adds flashy stuff it\'s cool but when Epic does it it\'s not? And I can\'t see why making things easier for the user is useless? Q3 is the first game id has with a cursor in it and I find it very useful although I usually use the keys when I\'m in a hurry.
If a user can have a server-browser, irc and a game running in three different windows *within UT*, why not? If you have a slow machine or want higher framerate, just turn everything else but the game off.
It might be cool (not innovative) of id to illustrate what happens with what keystroke but it\'s really only useful the first few times, after that you know what the key does. I honestly don\'t believe that they added it because it\'s cool, they added it to make it easier for newbies to get into it all. I\'d rather have an extensive description of what the keystroke does (strafing is hard to illustrate for instance).
I do agree with the fact that Q3 is fun because it\'s fun. I don\'t play it because it\'s QuakeX. Why would I play it if it wasn\'t any fun? \"Oh no, I have to play some Quake 3. Argh...\"

Everything in UT is windows driven, the in-game server browser (goodbye GameSpy), the IRC client, the player config, the gfx/video/control config, and so on. Mod makers can use this interface to write their own windows and menus.
So, please, if you don\'t know what your talking about, shut up.

1. What is Deep Fleet?
2. How deep is it?
3. How many feet of fleet are there?
4. When did the fleet really go deep?
5. Could a fleet be deep and still be considered fleeting?
6. If there are other fleets that deep, could there be a deepest fleet?
7. Why would a fleet choose to go deeper than deep?
8. Is a fleet ever truely at it\'s deepest?
9. Where is that Deep Fleet anyway?
10. Is this over yet?
Thanks!
