BTW, FWIW, I think it important to note DP never used the words "promise" or "gaurantee" or "sure thing" or "go ahead and start a contest for the cars." He said in ONE PRIVATE email that he would send 4 boards. He didn't say "try" or "maybe," either, but you get my point.

All the other emails or correspondence say 'no definite answer' or '2 boards.' So Hypo is picking only highest number out of many many other words. And I don't think DP EVER said 64meg.

Shit happens, and from reading the other emails it sounds like DP was still trying to hook him up with free shit which is more than Hypo-outofproportion deserves.

And shareholders don't give a shit about things like this. They care about revenue, profit, and the future of the company. That's why 3dfx is trading at a tenth the price Nvidia is. Nvidia has a future and 3dfx is quickly becoming another S3 or Tseng Labs.

I haven't seen or heard about anyone losing great deals of performance. FS and Anand said they're slightly slower on TNT2 series cards but that's it.

I forgot to say one thing. Those new Detonator 3 drivers could make you drop as much as 20 fps in Quake3. A person I saw on the msb told me his fps didn't raise that much with the new drivers. He only had 3-6 more fps in Quake3.

Lets hope that 3dfx nor NVidia don't go out of business. If they do, they wouldn't make faster video cards in a shorter amount of time, right?

This whole Nvidia thing is pretty interesting, however.. that Hypothermia guy's site isn't that incredible.

I mean, Nvidia did give him shit, but he needs to clean up his site and go about this in a bit more of a professional way.

I mean, when sTeve did it, he didn't post pictures of his e-mail client showing off the e-mail's themselves. But still. Little stuff like that.

Plus, he might wanna check his spelling before he posts on the page.

I emailed Steve about this and he said that there is a lot more to the story than we know.

Actually, if you check out the interview, all that is initially promised is a couple of boards and the promo stuff -- exactly what was delivered.

Obviously, that changed in the course of the emails, but, hey, shit happens and it seems to be a pattern with Mr. Hypothermia to blow everything out of proportion, so there is just a large a chance that NVIDIA is telling the truth here.

Oh well.

Heard the news about the Detonator 3 drivers? Some people are very mad about those drivers. Some of them even had to reinstall windows to fix the problem.

But that's just my 2 cents.

As long as a company didn't make promises to the gaming community it didn't fulfull, and members of that community as a result feel they're being treated unfairly, then where's the problem?

Personally, these "strong-arm" tactics don't bother me at all. Nvidia's boards are freakin fast, thier drivers are extremely stable, and they don't have as much price control as 3dfx. Until 3dfx goes out of business (I'm guessing 2 more card generations) thier competition will keep prices moderately low. Unless ATI pulls another decently fast card out of thier hat-o-tricks, Nvidia will soon own the market. That bothers me a lot more than thier screwing around with webmasters.

Until, of course, they try to fuck with daShack....

This Nvidia/3dfx saga is sounding quite reminiscent(sp.) of early PC/Microsoft vs Mac wars. It shouldn't be long before Nvidia uses its power against other chipmakers, and 3dfx already stopped other companies from selling 3dfx boards (like Mac's business is).

I dont know if anyone noticed this or not, but was that a Big Lebowski reference there Steve? "That's just like his opinion, man"

And besides, if nvidia bothers this guy so much, then dont fucking deal with them. Period. Simple no?

Ah well... The Detonator 3.0 drivers didn't do anything for my speed.

Still a hell of a lot faster than before, even if I am totally CPU limited now.
