With the recent DDoS attacks against Sony's PlayStation Network and Microsoft's Xbox Live, games that require to always been connected to the Internet could suffer if this kind of attack becomes a regular thing. With just one week left to the launch of Destiny, another attack could certainly cripple its release--which is exactly why Bungie and Activision are taking the proper measures to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Guardian published an in-depth feature that gives us a behind-the-scenes look at Destiny, which it's calling the "most expensive video game ever." In the feature, we learn Destiny's servers are house in a data center somewhere in Las Vegas. A team of over 100 engineers have been working to build and maintain the data center to esnure optimal connections to the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and additional data centers around the globe.

Las Vegas was chosen as the prime location for Destiny's servers for the fact that there aren't a lot of natural disasters in the area. "There are no earthquakes, no hurricanes, no floods - it's perfect," said Bungie's COO Pete Parsons.

Whether or not an unnatural disaster is planned to put the kibosh on Destiny's launch is currently unknown. For the sanity of all gamers who have been counting the days until Destiny's release, let's hope its launch goes smoothly.
