Titanfall update brings Pilot Skirmish mode

Titans? We don’t need no stinkin’ Titans! The new mode has pilots going against one another in ground combat, and will be available soon.

Titanfall has gotten a number of great updates since its release earlier this year, but the latest one, announced today on the official site, introduces a fun little feature. It’s practically taking away the Titans.

The mode is called Pilot Skirmish, and it’s a new featured game mode where you’ll battle in 8 vs. 8 fashion against other pilots, but without any Titans or AI soldiers getting in the way. In other words, all humans. In addition, the Marked For Death mode will be a permanent mode on all playlists, along with a specialized loadout that will be available each time you start it up.

Other additions include colorblind Titan supports (protanopia, deuteranopia and tritanopia), updates to Black Market Daily Deals, a new Roll the Dice burn card and optimizations to gameplay.

A release date wasn't given for the update.

The movement is what made the game fun. The titans were a bonus.

"How can we compete with Destiny coming out?" "maybe...maybe take out the thing that makes our game unique?" "MY GOD"

This could be worth trying but more Titan-based game modes would be preferred. I've said this before and I'll say it again... there must be some sort of TitanBall, King of the Hill, Kill Confirmed clone, or some other seemingly obvious game mode that they could design that would be a lot of fun when you throw Titans into it.

Am I missing something from their early interviews / design overview where they gave any good reason that these sorts of modes aren't included?

Also, more black market enhancements? I like the black market, but does it really need more development focus that could be utilized elsewhere instead?

I actually wished this mode was in the game from the beginning. With the lack of new faster-paced shooters, TF was a breath of fresh air but I hated the actual Titans themselves.

Wonder if they're doing this as a response to the new COD game coming later this year, which I've heard described as "TF without the titans" multiple times.

I agree with this, I rarely play as a titan. Limited movement, simple tactics, just point and shoot, limited routes, who the hell wants to be a titan? I very much love playing as a pilot and indulging in the verticality of the maps, trying new moves, new paths, it really is a breath of fresh air. I very much am looking forward to this update.

I felt that the Titans were the weakest part of Titanfall, it never felt like driving a giant stompy mech just running around as a giant Spartan. There was no oomph to their attacks, no weight to their movement. Anytime I called one in I just left it on autopilot, I enjoyed jetpacking around the levels much more. To me, Titans were a disappointment.

Titanfall is already discounted at all the stores. Was it really that much of a bust?

Don't most games get discounted eventually? Titanfall launched what... 6+ months ago?

I thought TF was and still is supercool and a breeze of fresh air in the stale genre of FPS MP.
