Dragon Age: Inquisition to feature co-op multiplayer

Up to four players can join up and raid specially created dungeons, and you can try it out for yourself this weekend at PAX.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will feature a cooperative dungeon crawling multiplayer mode, BioWare has announced.

The co-op mode will let up to four players team up and explore dungeons to collect loot, craft new items, and unlock new characters. The announcement promises up to twelve unlockable characters at launch ranging from among the three classes: Legionnaire, Reaver, and Mage. It's careful to note that this is a standalone experience, and won't have an impact on the single-player progression.

Those attending PAX this weekend can try out the multiplayer mode at the Microsoft booth.

"For Dragon Age: Inquisition, a special team of veteran developers from the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises created fun, fast-paced multiplayer gameplay that requires strategic teamwork on top of Inquisition's party-based combat and extensive loot and crafting system," said BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn, in the announcement. "It was early in the game's development that we realized how much fun fans of our series were having, with so many players teaming up in Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode. We can't wait to give Dragon Age fans an even bigger and deeper experience."

We had previously heard that BioWare offered a survey to gauge interest in such a mode, specifically asking about Mass Effect 3's multiplayer. Those single-serving missions seem to be a blueprint for this mode, but we'll see for ourselves in just a few days.

If this is as addictive as ME3 Multiplayer, I'm down.

"Specially created dungeons" sounds like you can't party up and just play the game together. :/

No, it's a totally separate mode. Actual co-op would be nice, but I can see how it'd be a lot of extra work potentially.

Yeah, that's certain. I know the original Dungeon Siege had a great multiplayer campaign, so hopefully this will follow that precedent.

Dungeon sieges multiplayer campaign was just the singleplayer campaign but with more people, as I remember it.

Specially created areas to me makes it sound like an excuse for having always on DRM. Combined with EA's $1 billion dollar DLC goal, and we have a company that continues to stick it to their customers. I guess we'll have to wait to find out if the always on DRM happens or not, but I'd be generally surprised if it didn't.

As long as this game turns out to not be a horrible shitfest like DA2, they can throw in Ewoks and trading cards with this multiplayer non-storyline crap.
