Fez developer's site hit by DDoS attack

As if things weren't already heated enough for Polyton founder and Fez designer Phil Fish, a hack attack on both the publisher's official site and Twitter account may have just pushed him over the edge.
Both the Twitter account and the site came under attack Friday, with Fish saying that they've been "doxed," with various pieces of personal information, like passwords and banking information, being publicly revealed. Since then, the main site has gone into maintenance mode, and the Twitter account has been suspended.
It's been a rough weekend with hacks all around, with Sony's PlayStation Network, Microsoft's Xbox Live and even Depression Quest developer Zoe Quinn under DDoS style attacks.
But this one may have pushed Fish over the edge. He announced on his Twitter account, before shutting it down, that he was done. "I would like to announce that Polytron and the Fez IP are now for sale," he tweeted. "No reasonable offer will be turned down. I am done. I want out."

He may have been an ass when it came to interacting with the gaming community, but no one deserves to have all of their personal records leaked for the world to see. Rapists, sex offenders, and murderers don't get this kind of invasion of privacy.

He already said he was cancelling Fez 2 and quitting. That was Jul 27, 2013.
The funny thing is people find out he's even still around because he's announced the same shit again.-
He cancelled Fez 2 and said he wasn't going to make any more games. Both of those things have remained true since that announcement, and are quite obviously different from selling your company and IP. Polytron was transitioning into publishing other folks' games until this shit happened.

First time was him leaving making his own games forever but still publishing other video games. This time it leaving the industry all together. He now wants nothing to do with video games at all.
Not to mention the fact that he is selling the IP to the one game that he created himself so the crybabies that have been harassing him and bitching at him can finally get what they want: a sequel to a game.-
Laugh's still on him if it turns out to be a better game.

Yeah, except no one 'hacked' him except for himself. It's a ploy for attention. There was too much data exposed in such a short amount of time that there was no way anyone 'hacking' could've done it. He dumped all of his info out there in a ploy to get people to buy his shitty company, and blamed it on the gamer audience that he hates so much.

But no one believes him. He loves dramatic exits with a big ole Andy Kauffman Twitter pic. So no one ever knows what his deal is or how far he'll take his drama. So people doubt it's validity. They think he wants to martyr himself for all this Zoe bullshit. I highly doubt he'd take it this far, but I also think he's a one hit wonder who dreads having to release another game.

I don't think any serious people think he actually did this to himself, because that would be real dumb and probably not accomplish anything he would (hypothetically) want it to.
That idea seems mostly to be the domain of conspiracy theorists.

I still wonder how the RIAA/MPAA arrived at real people to prosecute 10+ years ago. What happened to that method of locating offending folks and bringing them out of the shadows to face justice?
Doxing and DDoSing and SWATing and whatever else people think is hilarious needs to be squashed - and in that whole "make an example" style. Grandma faced the wrath of the MPAA and RIAA for downloading a christmas song or whatever... yet we hear nothing about folks that perpetuate this new extremely harmful stuff.-
I still hear about DDos takedowns, though usually it's going after the ones running bot farms rather than some idiot on IRC.
I think the individual would have to file charges about the Doxing. Probably doesn't happen because they just want it to go away.

Not necessarily calling him lazy but his priorities in getting the story up has less to do with accuracy and more to do with clicks. That's just an off the cuff judgement call based on the headlines I've seen posted on the front page.

I chalked that up to typical "dumbing down" for the audience.
It's obvious they are writing to bring in a more mainstream audience. Their headlines are so incongruous to the content if the article a lot of times. It's super interesting to me to see how the site is morphing to capture it. I hope one day they share some data on how well it has worked. Must be tough with us pedantic a-holes calling them on it too :)-

I actually don't think they were DDoS'd at all. The Polytron website remained functional, it was just hacked to display whatever information the hackers wanted.
