Square Enix has fired the first shot with new GamesCom projects this week, with the debut of a new game from Remember Me developer Dontnod titled Life Is Strange.

Due for release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC, the game is an "episodic, digitally delivered, narrative driven adventure game" surrounding some rather interesting characters.

Taking place in Arcadia Bay, Oregon, the game focuses on senior student Max Caufield, who makes his return after a five-year absence. He meets up with his former friend Chloe and launches an investigation into the disappearance of a fellow student, Rachel Amber.

The gameplay will feature a rewind technique, which will help Max erase any possible mistakes he makes along the way, though he'll still need to deal with consequences through the player's actions.

More details on Life Is Strange are expected later in the week, but the first screenshots indicate that there's an interesting, distinctive look to the game's design.

Funny, I just played through Remember Me this past weekend (thanks PS+)

Totally dug it, hope they have an improved sophomore outing while keeping the ambition of Remember Me

Nice! Sounds like they've got an interesting gameplay mechanic they're going to go all out on this time. (the memory rewind in Remember Me could have been incorporated a little more deeply, since it was so entertaining)

Sort of sad to see that it's episodic and the visuals budget appears to be pretty reduced, but if it can help them secure their status for more funding the next time out, it's all good. I'll be supporting this game right out of the starting gate.
