Cybernator coming to Wii U Virtual Console today

One of Konami's sleeper SNES hits will make its digital debut.

Back on the SNES, Konami created quite a renaissance with both familiar sequels like Contra III: The Alien Wars and Super Castlevania IV. However, it also released a number of original games, including Axelay and Sparkster (spun off from the Rocket Knight Adventures series).

Today, on the Wii U Virtual Console service, it will release Cybernator, aka Assault Suit Valken. This side-scrolling action game puts you in charge of a hero in a mech suit, blasting away at enemies through large, anime-style levels. It's still fun after all these years, and well worth rediscovering if you're looking to beat the summer doldrums. Just watch the video below and indulge.

Cybernator will launch for the low price of $7.99. That sure beats hunting down a SNES and a copy of the original game. Plus, GamePad support!

I still have my original copy, loved that game. Never managed to beat the final boss. The progression of your weapons getting stronger over the course of the game was fun. Having that giant laser beam at the end made every playthrough worth it.

It's part of the same series. They were all a called "Assault Suit something or another" in Japan.
