The old-school throwback RPG Bravely Default has shipped 1 million copies worldwide, including downlodable versions.

Siliconera reports 400,000 of those sales were in its home country of Japan, and the other 600,000 were split between other countries. The company did not specify the split between the original version and its updated For The Sequel version, which served as the basis for the western release. As the title implies, that update was meant to set the stage for another game, Bravely Second, which is currently in development.

Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda recently said that Bravely Default helped it refocus its priorities. It had been attempting to make games for a worldwide audience, but found that attempting that wouldn't really please anyone. A very consciously Japanese-style RPG like Bravely Default helped to show the company that it can make games that come from its roots, and that fans of that style of game will be spread all around the world.

I was really in to this game, but as soon as I finished out the town upgrades, I lost interest.

There's some pretty intense boss fights where you take on 4 bosses at once later on, but story wise, it pretty much peters out once you hit that point.

I hope the sequel avoids that, as it was a great game prior to that point.
