Civilization: Beyond Earth coming in October

Civilization: Beyond Earth, the futurist take on the long-running strategy franchise, has set a landing date. 2K Games announced today that it will come to PC on October 24 for $49.99.

Civilization: Beyond Earth, the futurist take on the long-running strategy franchise, has set a landing date. 2K Games announced today that it will come to PC on October 24 for $49.99.

Pre-ordering will grant you the Exoplanets Map Pack, which includes six custom planets said to be "inspired by real exoplanets." Space! The map pack includes the lush forest planet of Kepler 186f, the arid continental planet of Rigil Khantoris Bb, the water-logged Tau Ceti d, the split frozen-desert planet Mu Arae f, a tectonic minefield 82 Eridani, and a mysterious new planet Eta Vulpeculae b.

        Seriously? Civ 5 is still very overpriced. They keep releasing new DLC as a means to keep bumping up the price. It took forever to become affordable. Well at least in Australia where it's still $70 on steam.

          When Brave New World was out or coming out, there were a few sales where everything else Civ5 up to that point was $5 (base game, Gods & Kings, and all the little DLC), it was nuts. But the game is still consistently in the top 10 played games on Steam, so it makes sense that it's not always dirt cheap, lasting appeal and ll. Still goes on sale fairly often, but I haven't seen it go that low since then.

        Yeah, this is my one major concern. They're obviously using the same engine and a lot of the same UI elements, but hopefully a lot of the stuff under the hood is being changed.

          when they said they weren't bringing back unit customization in favor of their new system (which they described as being basically the perk system from Civ4/5) I was instantly turned off :(.

            lol this is such a narrow minded viewpoint.

            Almost no one likes the unit customization in Alpha Centauri. It's sounds interesting when you talk about it, but it's just a bunch of menus and it's clunky as hell.

        The only evidence I've seen to the contrary is the tech tree, which is now a spiderweb instead of a straight line. Everything else looks exactly like Civ 5. Here's hoping that looks can be deceiving.
