Sunset Overdrive 'Chaos Squad' 8-player co-op explained

Insomniac is explaining Sunset Overdrive's 8-player co-op multiplayer mode, known as Chaos Squad.

Sunset Overdrive combines all the fun of parkour and not getting killed by ravenous mutants. While that's a fun set of activities for a single person, there's nothing like getting friends in on the fun, so Insomniac is pulling the curtain back on the game's 8-player co-op mode called Chaos Squad.

Multiplayer sessions can be initiated directly from single-player by entering any of the green photo booths available in the world. This will match up a player's character (with everything currently equipped) with other users to vote on multiplayer missions to jump into, each with their own objectives. The missions culminate with a massive tower defense horde mission, which offers rewards that vary from cosmetic items to single-player weapons.

Get a look at how Chaos Squad will work by watching the video below. Sunset Overdrive will release on Xbox One on October 28.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
