Dreamfall Chapters goes episodic with Book One coming this fall

Dreamfall Chapters is going in a slightly different direction for its upcoming release. Originally slated as a standalone release, the Kickstarter-funded project will now be released as an episodic series, with developer Red Thread Games releasing a new trailer for the first installment.

The trailer for Book One: Reborn shows some of the classic adventure gameplay that the series is well-known for. The decision-driven adventure follows the dual journey of protagonists Zoe Castillo and Kian Alvane, as they venture across three worlds spanning a cyberpunk future, a fantasy realm, and decaying dream world. The first chapter is on target for a fall release.

The new episodic format will not affect Kickstarter and PayPal backers, who will receive all five of the game's episodes for free, as they're released. Those looking to jump aboard Dreamfall Chapters for the first time will be able to purchase a Season Pass on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store.

  I love these games! Having just replayed them, the first one 'The Longest Journey' stands up well to the test of time despite some dated graphics. The story of the second one is great and worth slogging through some of the most ill advised gameplay decisions ever... the camera is terrible, character movement is awkward and the combat and stealth are just awful. It says a lot about the quality of the visuals, voice acting and story that I can still recommend the game!
  
  The new engine and the experience that the team got from making The Longest Journey gives me a lot of hope that this latest installment will be a masterpiece.

    Er, last sentence fail, I meant the experience they got from making The Secret World. (The team is made up of ex-Funcom employees and headed by Ragnar Tornquist who was the lead designer for the MMO.
