Blizzard has finally detailed the prices for Hearthstone's upcoming Curse of Naxxramas expansion. Though it certainly isn't cheap, a few options help mitigate the blow to your wallet (or gold).

According to an update on the official blog, Naxxramas will update with one wing at a time for five weeks. The Arachnid Quarter will come first, followed by Plague Quarter, Military Quarter, Construct Quarter, and Frostwyrm Lair. If you access Naxxramas during the launch event--roughly a month--you'll get Arachnid Quarter for free. It houses three bosses (Anub’Rekhan, Grand Widow Faerlina, and Maexxna), each of whom will add cards to your collection after beating them.

The other four wings can be purchased for 700 gold or $6.99 apiece. You can also purchase them in bundles set at different prices depending on how many wings you already own. If you want to purchase them all at once, it will be $24.99, but if you took advantage of the launch freebie and only need to buy the four remaining wings, it will be $19.99. Blizzard notes that purchasing the wings doesn't grant you early access, so you'll still be getting the wings as they release on a weekly schedule.

Naxxramas will also include a "Heroic Mode" of each wing, with more difficult bosses. Defeating all of the Naxxramas bosses on Heroic Mode will unlock a new card back, perfect for bragging rights.

$20 doesn't seem like that bad a deal.

pleasantly surprised with these prices. I've got the gold saved up, can't wait to play it!

That's the main problem here. I doubt we'll be playing it anytime soon.

Y'all some optimistic motherfuckers! But I do hope you are right. I just don't trust Blizzard Time.

Duels of the Planeswalkers 2015 comes out 07/16 so my guess for Naxx is next week. Blizzard has a long history of cockblocking their competitors via release dates.

also, the pricing here is pure genius.

Naxxramas costs either $20 or 2800 gold

      - $20 will buy you 15 card packs
      - 2800 gold will buy you 28 card packs

Even if you've got 2800 gold saved up, it probably makes more sense to just pay $20 for Naxx and buy 28 packs with your gold.

So it's not really genius. It's just a bad deal for people to buy the cards instead of just purchasing the expansion. It's an illusion of two good choices when there's really only one. At least that's how it seems to me.

In their defense, you're trivializing the value of the actual content which should be a lot of fun. Heroic difficulty to unlock card backs is sweet.

Huh? You must have misread my post.

I'm not trivializing anything. I think the pricing is awesome, either with gold or usd.

The other really brilliant part of making it so god damned reasonable to just buy it outright is the fact that so many people, myself included, have never paid a dime into the game -- but once we do spend a few bucks on the game, it'll be so much easier to keep doing it. I don't even have a credit card associated with my blizzard account, which makes it very easy at the moment to resist the urge to impulse buy an arena key.

Is this where we bitch about Magic costing $10?

Does that really bother anyone? What bothers me is that the product improves very little year after year and that with all the time they've had it is still sadly inferior to Hearthstone by a wide margin.

I like Magic and I want it to succeed, but the market has been ripe for a good Magic game for a long time. I don't understand how Wizards sat around picking their nose long enough for Blizzard to walk right up and eat their god damned lunch.

Why have they never taken Magic: Online and remade it look like Duels of the Planeswalkers?
