Cliff Bleszinski to reveal new game details next week

Cliff Bleszinski is preparing for a comeback, and you'll see what he has in mind soon.

Cliff Bleszinski, who worked his magic on Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and the Gears of War saga for years before stepping away into semi-retirement from Epic Games two years ago, is just about ready to unveil his latest project. He sent out a message to fans stating that we'll know more within the next week.

"I'm officially coming out of retirement to make video games again. Stay tuned here for details in the next 7 days! #DontCallItAComeback," he said on Twitter.

Bleszinksi previously teased an image of a new game back in August of last year, but didn't reveal too many details outside of that. He did mention the possibility of Early Access funding for the project, though. We'll get the full scoop on his "grown up" project come next Monday.

Jazz Jackrabbit 3? Nah.

Robert Workman was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Painkiller in general tasted a lot like Quake, which is never not a good thing to my palate. Levels, enemies, guns, they all had somewhat of a techno-medieval vibe to them, for lack of better descriptors.

UT wasn't my game, but I generally thought the games he led were good.

When he was wearing ridiculous pimp suits and acting like Internet Super Nerd Cliffy B, everybody seemed to love him, especially in the wake of some JeffK / Smarty Man Game Designer Survivor Island memes. I think probably being made fun of all the time and playing along with it helped a lot.

Then a few years later, there was kind of a CliffyB wardrobe and public persona re-imaging that struck serious douche-bro chords and everybody turned on him. Possibly because there was no fun self-depracation and he appeared to take it all kind of seriously.

Anyway, I'm interested in seeing what he's making. Hopefully it's not an introspective sidescrolling puzzle-platformer about innocence lost, and is instead a game where you run fast and shoot other players with over the top space guns.

Man, this article's presentation was terrible. Giant f'ing picture of "CliffyB" with a Lancer slung behind his head, and the article basically starts with, "Cliff Bleszinski, creator of Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Gears of War, AND NOTHING ELSE!!!!!1"

Cliff doesn't want to be called "CliffyB" anymore, he doesn't want to have Gears be the only thing that most people remember him making, and I'm pretty sure that he doesn't want Unreal to be forgotten. This article is basically an insult to him prior to his announcement.

I wish the NuNuShack article editors would grow up a little bit.
