On FAKK2 Patch
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 15, 2000 3:25am PDTAs reflected in some of the comments last night, the recently released 1.01 patch for FAKK2 hasn't resolved problems for anyone. Since Ritual is having problems recreating these problems on their own machines, Ritual programmer Mark Dochtermann sent along the following
We released a patch for Heavy Metal FAKK 2 tonight and honestly thought we had fixed the vast majority of remaining issues with the product, apparently we were wrong. The truth is since we shipped the product 2 weeks ago we have been unable to reproduce the crash bug that everyone seems to experience. We have access to over 30 different machines (at the office and at home) running 98, 2k, and NT, running A3D, EAX and software and we have not gotten one machine to reliably crash time and again. Often when we did find a machine that did crash, we were able to cure it by upgrading to the latest sound or video driver or it miraculously cured itself after minimal cajoling. I am writing this, to ask if there is anyone in the DFW area that is experiencing this problem and would like to help us solve it, please contact me directly at markd@ritual.com. Ritual Entertainment is dedicated to shipping products that are bug free, and we thought Heavy Metal FAKK 2 was bug free. I ask that people have a bit more patience with us so that we can do the right thing by our customers. We shipped a product that had no known major issues at launch time (according to our testing), the fact that it has exhibited these problems in wide release is very distressing to me and the rest of the FAKK 2 team.

"I think I'll go download the DoS attacks and bring down a few servers now."
"everyone go on ETG and spam this retard"
"You fucking retard.. It makes the shaft THIN, and it actually shows as fov 110 at all times. If you weren't so stupid you would have noticed the +zoom... Next time you should at least understand what you're attempting to make fun of."
"Moron... If I'm stealing it, then it is logical to say that it is FREE.. To say that I am taking money out of the pockets of developers is also pretty stupid. I've made it fairly clear that I would not buy this or many of the other games I warez..."
"No offense daggah, but you are stupid. Ok maybe that was meant to be offensive."
"Retard. If you're a coder...it would be much easier to do weapon effects and decals."
"You fucking morons."
"Nobody cares you fucking social reject."
"Obviously, you are a moron."
"Now where are all those FUCKING MORONS (Gareth Bryne?) that kept bitching and moaning about some lame fucking "conspiracy" to withhold the release of Rocket Arena...so as not to steal customers from Q3TA.
"I want every single one of you peices of shit to come clean right now. Don't make me search through the archives of your 623412312 million posts you no-life-24/7-shack-posting gimps."
"Get a life/grow up/eat shit."
"And anyone that has the realplayer smartstart icon in their system tray still...is a moron."
"Everyone has the right to insult people, retard."
"You, sir, are a fucking moron."
"Are you stupid? I thought so."
"Nice name you fucking homo."

Nice that the team asks their communitty to help solve the problem in stead of sticking their head in their arse and just try to figure it ou themselves [wich will take more time i think].
Still, I like Ritual's style. They've got class. FAKK2 is on my "to-buy" list.
More support for buying games used/warez... I would be very pissed if I had blown $40-50 on that piece of shit...
I think MDK2 has been the best implementation of a 3rd person I've seen so far, too bad it gets old after the 50'sth mario brother's jump.

If nothing else, I'll be covered for a while until these games drop to $19.
However, I reinstalled it the other day, applied 3 different patches.. 1.00 to 1.01, then 1.01 to 1.06, then 1.06 to 1.10 and it runs and looks great. (note to Ritual.. for us gullable tards that have version 1.00, how about a 1.00 to 1.10 patch?)
They definitely beat Half-Life to the shelf but paid a BIG big price.
SO far I've had minimal problems, and the patch seems to have nailed whatever niggling hang ups I did have
If you buy the game, and get the patch, you should be fine.
The bugs in no way detract from an overall decent gaming experience.
i upgraded to this over a year ago, i guess i'm just a fanboy jerk internet fad follower tho - it had nothing to do with running and learning NT, making photoshop running nice and fast - and it was nice to run Q3A a little faster then usual... but what do i know - i'm selling this system tommorow and buying an unlocked Duron/A7V combo (i'm a fad fanboy!)

Win98 (first edition)
SB Live (x-gamer)
sli voodoo2 - ack!
FAKK2 crashes windows explorer on exit, every time. I have all the latest drivers. Maybe the problems are from certain mobo/processors or combinations, a la the first batman movie. It also runs like shit, but that's my ol' video cards' fault :)
