One of the first manufacturers to jump aboard this idea is Razer, who has revealed an Android TV-powered micro-console that will focus on gaming.

The Razer micro-console is expected to be able to stream movies, music, and apps for televisions, but will also be built to support gaming applications. A press release issued by Razer notes that the micro-console will incorporate both "hardcore and casual gaming" into the Android TV platform. Since it's powered by the Android TV OS, it can operated with voice commands and through Android smartphones or tablets.

Razer's set-top box will compete with other offerings like the Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, but its emphasis on gaming will make the upcoming PlayStation TV its closest competitor.

There is currently no price for the Razer micro-console, but it is expected to release this fall.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I'm assuming their focus on 'hardcore' gaming is going to be Steam Home Streaming functionality. Basically an Nvidia Shield like box (which is android based right?) box but without batteries and a screen.

Maybe it'll be an option for me when my Roku 2s die. There are so many out there and i want a little bit of all of them.
