Ubisoft vows to release Assassin's Creed Unity on PC alongside console versions

Ubisoft promises to get the PC version of Assassin's Creed Unity out on the same day as its console counterparts, which (believe it or not) would literally be a first for the series.

There's no denying that Ubisoft hasn't been so good about bringing Assassin's Creed to PC in a timely manner. Delays would often push it back behind its console brethren. It happened last year... and the year before that... and the year before that... and, alright, it's happened an awful lot. But this time, Ubisoft swears they'll have Assassin's Creed Unity released alongside its console counterparts. For reals, this time!

Producer Lesley Phord-Toy assured Rock Paper Shotgun that the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of Unity would all release on the same October 28 release date. While PC delays have previously been attributed to console master SKUs, this time, Phord-Toy offers a somewhat different explanation.

"PC has a variety of different hardware configurations that you can't necessarily predict," Phord-Toy explained. "On a console you know what's in the box. Every customer has the same configuration for the most part, and first-parties push firmware updates so everyone has what you’re expecting to have. PCs are nowhere near as consistent. So it can be extremely challenging to try and support as many of those permutations as possible."

Phord-Toy adds that Ubisoft's PC support team has been bolstered to prevent anymore delays, such as this one. Whether the publisher will be able to see this through remains to be seen, but you know how the old saying goes: seventh time's the charm.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Added bonus: The PC will have the same high-fidelity graphics and blistering frame rates of the console versions!

After Watch_Dogs I'm going to wait a week.

Indeed. I'm quite sour about Watch_Dogs. It looks nothing like the original videos. I understand tech videos are representative of a specific development stage an likely to change, however, the end result was drastically different.

After seeing the beautiful, in-game visuals in the first Assassin's Creed: Unity demonstration, I'm now more cautious and hesitant to buy into the hype. A shame really, as I love the AC franchise and have purchased all games in the series on day 1 (including multiple copies over various platforms and many collectible bits).

Sorry eonix and co. I don't mean to shit on your hard work, but it's easy to feel disappointed when a publisher delivers a product largely different to what was initially promised.

Whatever happened to Assassin's Creed "Comet"? Was there any news about it at all at e3?

Not a single mention at e3. I'm really curious what the hell is up with that.
