The Settlers franchise will journey once more in 2014. Ubisoft announced the latest iteration of the franchise called The Settlers - Kingdoms of Anteria, with developer Blue Byte taking the reigns once more.

Ubisoft confirmed that the game is in development, but offered little else in terms of concrete information. The game will feature more of the series' knack for combining real-time strategy combat with city-building elements. The CGI teaser can be seen below.

The last game in the Settlers series was The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom, which was quickly derailed by Ubisoft's DRM scheme.

Shacknews has reached out to Ubisoft for pricing and platform information.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

If this game turns out more like settlers 2/3/4, I'll be all over it.

Agreed. 7 felt like it was too focused on the RTS side at one point since I felt I was racing the clock more than slowing planning out my town's expansion like previous games.

I enjoyed 7, but I would kill for some old style gameplay.

Am I doing it wrong to feel like I'm pressed for time? This was especially one mission where I was racing some priest dude to the top location of the map. I was taking my time to build out my city when I realized he was like halfway there. Then I realized the map was really a sprint, and I lost. Never went back to it.

I wish Blue Byte would do a proper sequel to "Incubation: Time is Running Out."

Even though it was a turn-based game, that game made me feel like I was living in the "Aliens" franchise.

Based on the purple gem being handed over in the trailer, I'm now expecting F2P bullshit, like AOE Online or something.

Heard back from Ubisoft and they're declining to give a pricing model at this time.

        Exercise caution.
