With two Star Wars games under its feathered belt, the Angry Birds franchise is moving into its next franchise partnership: robots in disguise. Angry Birds Transformers will be coming later this year in the form of a mobile game, licensed goods, and Hasbro "Telepod" toys.

Telepod toys, for those of you not hep to the Angry Birds scene, are physical toys that connect with the game and import information like Skylanders or Disney Infinity figures. So in this case, it's bringing together Angry Birds, Transformers, and toys altogether to create some kind of marketing version of Devastator. This all with the catchy tag-line, "Birds disguised as robots in disguise."

“We’re really excited to combine the iconic Transformers universe with the quirky world of Angry Birds” said Blanca Juti, Chief Marketing Officer of Rovio. “This mash-up is going to appeal to those who grew up with the brand in the 80s, as well as fans of the brand today. People are going to love it!”

“Angry Birds Transformers provides fans worldwide with a fun, new story and characters, and innovative ways, like our TELEPODS platform, for consumers to engage with the brand” said John Frascotti, Chief Marketing Officer at Hasbro. “We collaborated with Rovio to create opportunities for kids and families to experience Autobirds and Deceptihogs across multiple formats and entertainment platforms, for a completely immersive branded experience

This doesn't sound like it comes off quite as smooth as the Star Wars ip, but we'll have to see. However, in light of an ip that has character's of specific uses/roles, it seems like GI Joe would be a better fit. Each Joe had a very specific function in both the toys and cartoons.

Since they just released Epic, their RPG spin-off, and had previously done the kart racer, I assume the f2p MMO can't be far behind either.
