Possible New Analog Modem
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 14, 2000 4:28pm PDTSillicon Valley News has a story on the latest analog modem enhancements, V.92. Improvements include a shorter dial up/connection time (as in when you call in and the modem makes all the noise), faster upload speeds, on hold feature (taking a phonecall without losing connection) and other features that make it just a little less painful to be a modem owner. Whether ISPs will upgrade remains to be seen though, especially as DSL and cable services are spreading.

v.90 blows as it is with winmodems / etc disconnections and problems
33.6 is SO stable
v.90 is NOT (with shit modems)
v.92 = sigh :(
i work at an isp, sigh!
They should invest into higher quality phone line services, which would bring the other two along much faster. My phone lines suck so hardcore, that my 3com, quality 56k modem only connects at 26,400kbps. That's a maximum transfer speed of 3.2k/s. My neighboors all say they have the same problem. Where do I live, you might ask? A suburb of WashingtonDC, in North Virginia. Also happens to be the highest income county in the whole United States. They only offer cable and DSL in a small portion of the county.
None of this new tech is helping me. And that's all I care about.
Thank you for listening.

I used a 28.8 modem for like 4 or 5 years so... I've been there before. :)
