Update: The new trailer has been added.

Original story: The perpetually hungry Pac-Man has a new hunger: your tears. Nintendo announced at a special Smash Bros event tonight that Pac-Man will be part of the roster in the upcoming Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U.

Pac-Man could be seen delivering off-the-wall attacks that honor his 30+ year heritage (as well as the heritage of some old-school arcade classics), wocka wocka-ing his opponents and tossing fruit at them. He also brings a brand-new Pac-themed stage to the proceedings. To watch his full onslaught, see the trailer below.

Wait, really? I was thinking about this this morning. But it was more along the lines of how silly/impractical it would be.

From the looks of his gameplay, he will be the new Game & Watch.

Roundtable is still going, so it will likely go up once it's over.

I didn't realize Namco was involved in the development until this news hit and I read comments on other sites. Very cool! Nintendo has been killing it this year and at E3, who the hell needs 3rd party support anyway? ;)

Many thanks! Pac-Man again reenergizes this game. The dev roundtable was a way for Nintendo to say, "We got all the classics in this house, bitches! Kneel!"

Sakurai said in the Q & A that he actually wanted to do a 2D Pac Man, like G & W, or a 3D model based off the original 2D sprite, like Megaman, but he just couldn't think of a way to make him fight without arms and legs. So he opted for the Pacman World Pacman, but he transforms to a 3D old-style pacman during some of his moves (as seen in the trailer).
