New DOOM teased, more info coming at QuakeCon

Bethesda has revealed the first teaser for an all-new DOOM game, with more information coming at this year's QuakeCon.

Remember pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order and seeing something about a new DOOM beta? You probably asked yourself what that was referring to. Today, Bethesda answered those questions (sort of) with a new CGI teaser trailer, heralding an all-new entry to the DOOM series. However, those looking for any additional information will have to wait until QuakeCon 2014, when the publisher offers an official reveal of the series' next chapter.

No platforms were given, so look for that information to also be available at QuakeCon. Of course, given the history of the series, PC is pretty much a given.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Yeah, even without Carmack and Romero, I can't help but be excited for this.

I am mildly surprised there is going to be a Quakecon this year. I just kind of assumed those died with Carmack's departure.

Would be nice if they stopped making it feel like Quake, and more like hell. :P

Would be awesome if they could get Reznor to do the music and some of the ambient sound f/x

After the simi fiasco that happened for Doom 3? Looks unlikely IMHO.

I would've taken a Trent Reznor Doom 3 sound set over "With Teeth".

Trent Reznor was originally helping Id Software with the sound and sound code on Doom 3. A number of engineering changes made it in, but partway through, Trent left because he wanted to work on his next album (at the time, it was "WIth Teeth"). You can hear a number of his sound effects in the leaked ATI demo from 2002; almost all (if not all) of those were replaced by sound effects and music by Xian, Ed Lima, and Chris Vrenna. There was some bad blood back then between Trent and Chris; IIRC, Trent badmouthed the Doom 3 title song by Chris Vrenna's band, Tweaker, as being a Lateralus ripoff (which it completely was; I replaced that in my Doom 3 install with filtered white noise).

TBH Reznor had a bad habit of badmouthing a lot of folks back in the day...I remember him shitting all over Front Line Assembly and KMFDM (both bands I tend to prefer over NIN tbh).

After how good the combat in Wolfenstein is (I know different people are making them) and how smooth Id Tech 5 feels, even if isn't super cutting edge visually, I have a lot of hope for this. Id don't let us down - this might be your last chance.

I'd personally prefer gunplay to fall more in line with Rage. Wolf:TNO wasn't bad, but it didn't stand out a whole lot from general shootman games. Rage had great use of environments by the AI, weapons that made a difference to combat, and was some of the best shooting I've had in an FPS.

I know, but it wasn't a defining features of the demons. Some were mechanized, others not.
The Strogg (in Q2) are all about being hybrids as a defining feature.

The first image which comes to mind when I think of doom is the Cyber Demon (which is probably what that monster in the video is).

No, Quake is lovecraftian...DOOM is cyberdemons and imps (and sawed off double barrel shotguns).

most likely the beta that has been promised earlier is for the MP, i never heard of a early access beta for a SP campaign

Nice, an ok teaser trailer and cool to see the actual first trailer and reveal at the last Quakecon.

id Software will be terminated after Doom4 is done. Why keep them when all the talent has left and all that is still there is pretty much Kevin Cloud and Tim Willits.
