Sony has issued a release date for their PlayStation 4 version of The Last of Us. Get ready to re-live the lasting memories all over again when The Last of Us Remastered arrives on July 29, a month later than the initial retail estimate.

The trailer that debuted during the Sony E3 press conference tugged right at the heartstrings, reminding players why they were so engaged by Naughty Dog's most recent opus. The Last of Us Remastered will collect the base game, along with the game's DLC (including the Left Behind chapter) and a cast & developer commentary.

You can watch the full trailer below, but be warned that there are spoilers! So if you haven't played the game yet, maybe you rethink that idea.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I really want to replay this, but I played it on hard the first time so I hope the remaster will somehow recognize the trophy and unlock hardcore, otherwise it's a pass.

Good point. I did the same and wouldn't want to have to play hard again.

This is the biggest joke on us, since the whole Kinect debacle. Yeah I know. Dont want it, don't buy it. Thing is as the video played, my wife asked me why was The Last of Playing on E3 again? I asked her to look at it and tell me. She started at it and waited. Then she saw the words remastered and laughed and walked away.
She said it best, she said "anyone buying that game has nothing better to do, the jokes on them" Thats from someone that loved it on PS3.

Its right up there with that demo for $40 called Ground Zeros

I'm not really sure what the issue is. I don't own a PS3, have never played The Last of Us. I figure it'll be the first game I get on a PS4. Even if it is as much as $40 I'm fine with paying that. What is the problem?

People need to come to terms with the fact that game development costs so much money that re-releases are a guaranteed and relatively inexpensive (relative to the cost of building a game from scratch) way to recoup the costs of developing new IPs.

plus they wouldn't do it if, you know, people weren't going to BUY it. but i guess wanting to buy a product makes me a SUCKER.

Yup, and in the same breath there are always going to be people who feel cheated, having paid to play a perceived inferior experience - reasonable or not. Adding salt to the wound, should they want to have this new experience they are faced with surrendering more of their money to the very company that has so deviously pulled the wool over their eyes. This, dear sir, gets their goat. Some of these people lash out on the internet to vent. And we enjoy a nice shack pile with our coffee. *sips*

Yeah, I really regret playing one of the best games of all time last year at release when I could have waited a year, bought a new system, and then played a graphically improved, but fundamentally identical experience. I got swindled.

Yeah, I don't understand the problem. Nobody is forcing you to buy the game again. Surely its a good thing as people with PS4s that haven't played the game can enjoy it.

Honestly with games that were on the cusp of the new gen I don't mind them taking time to do a proper version for the next gen console than just straight porting. Take advantage of the horsepower.

I always got the feeling it was more for people who didnt play it on PS3 or own a PS3. My brother plans to buy it and he didnt have a PS3, now he has a PS4 and wants to play what is considered one of the best Playstation exclusive titles.

this is correct. I don't get his "joke" or how the kinect is even relevant. I will be purchasing this title for my PS4 in the same fashion, even though I have a PS3 - didn't play The Last Of Us.

Are you trying to say that you don't understand the hate for Kinect and in general the public is stupid and prefers playing the same game over and over again instead of the new experience of Kinect? I'm probably way off on this, but it's the only sense I could make of the post.

You are saying that more consumer choice is bad? It's a bad thing that Metal Gear fans can buy a tech demo instead of just seeing it on video? It's a bad thing that we get prettier, improved versions of our favorite games, if we want to buy them? Huhhh???

Well, I rented TLOF and did a Couch Coop marathon. Four of us took turns playing, it was a great way to marathon the entire game without wearing yourself out because in between playing you can follow the story, make fun of the player for being an idiot, have them run to the corner of the map to check for that glint you saw which turned out to be nothing, make fun of a stupid plan which ends up working, make fun of someone who keeps dying, make some fun commentary on the game with each other, drink beer, eat In-N-Out, and make bets with how long someone will last.

So if I wanted to play through it again either alone or another couch Coop, it'll have to be the painful cost of another Redbox rental.

this is the one game that makes me consider buying a console again. I have had every console up to but excluding current gen. However I got rid of them all a couple of years back. But this one game is making it hard not to want to buy a PS4 :(
