SteamWorld Dig first released on 3DS, but it has slowly made its way to several platforms since then. After making its way to PC, developer Image & Form announced intentions to hit PlayStation 4 and Vita. Now the old-western Steampunk platformer is setting its sights on Wii U with a fall release in mind.

Image & Form made the announcement on their website (via Joystiq), noting that Nintendo's home console is a "perfect platform" for their game.

SteamWorld Dig centers around a robotic cowboy named Rusty, who sets out to investigate the town's mines. Along the way, he finds gems and loot within their walls, along with plenty of danger.

More information on the Wii U version of SteamWorld Dig, including release date and price, are expected soon.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
