Ready for more death? Sure you are. Bandai Namco has announced that three new chapters of downloadable content will be coming to Dark Souls 2, and the first of the three releases, Crown of the Sunken King, will be making its way to release on July 22nd. Light those campfires now…

The content, which will release for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Steam/PC, is dubbed The Lost Crowns trilogy, and throws even more dangerous enemies and ridiculous challenges to overcome, including a few bosses that will wipe the floor with you several times.

In the first chapter of the DLC, Crown of the Sunken King, you're off on a journey to reclaim the crowds that Drangleic's King Vendrick once possessed. As you may realize over the course of your adventure, getting them back isn't quite so easy.

The first DLC will release on July 22nd, while the remaining two chapters, Crown of the Old Iron King and Crown of the Ivory King, will release on August 26th and September 24th, respectively.

"To say we are excited to unleash these three new chapters to Dark Souls II fans is an understatement," said Chris Gilbert, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Bandai Namco Games America. "Bandai Namco Games is very proud of the universal praise and enjoyment fans have both given and received from Dark Souls 2. The Lost Crowns trilogy and more specifically the Crown of the Sunken King will kick off what will surely be an exciting summer of speculation and anticipation of the new battles, challenges and triumphs to come amongst our most ardent fans."

The chapters can be purchased for $9.99 apiece, or fans can purchase the trilogy in one swoop and save $5, at a total price of $24.99. That's a small price to pay for a whole lot of death.

Full experience my ass. From favorite series to not even buying DLC on the latest iteration. Well done.

Yeah they should layoff their extra staff after the game ships instead of have them make new content that can then be sold.

Let them make the DLC. Let them do whatever they want. I have no interest in anything this team produces.

They did the exact same thing with DS1, and it turned out to be incredible. What's the problem with more content for DS2?

I don't like the content of DS2? Is that ok? The Dark Souls DLC was originally planned to be in the game but was cut due to budget/time constraints. It was then polished to hell and released. The Dark Souls DLC was indeed fantastic, but I have no faith that the current team will do anything in the same league.

The team that made DS1 said exactly the same "there is no DLC coming" statement, about wanting it to be complete as is. The sane statement. I'm not really asking you to like one over the other, but you can't praise one game and chastise the other for doing the same thing.

Be that as it may, I am glad there is DLC. I enjoyed DS2, and I look forward to them getting the opportunity to really tie it all together. DS1 made much less sense as an overarching story before the DLC came out, and I hope for the same here.

both games were complete upon release, although DS2 was a lot more polished. the announcement of DLC is not what soured me on DS2. I'm not interested in the DLC because I don't want any more content from the DS2 team. I think they did a shit job of making a souls game. I've explained this in other posts, and had all kinds of negative reactions to it. I've been outspoken and critical of the game pretty much since its PC release. I've posted a video that explains my position on the game very clearly. I want DS2 to disappear from my memory. Imagining more crappy writing to fill in plot holes they wrote into the original story makes me sad. The thought of DS2 DLC makes me want a proper sequel and reminds me of how disappointed I am with the game.

pre-emptive response to negative or condescending comments: I don't care and I'm going to bed. glad you liked the game.

Fuck yes, bring it on. DS1's DLC was amazing, and was one of the best areas in the game.

The AotA DLC really added to the lore of DS1, I hope that this will have a similar effect to DS2.

Both because I love DS2 a great and because I have a lot of free time lately I will probably start a new character to be ready for the new content. My first character is a 252 knight with high faith and miracles and my second is a 140 or so mage who mostly uses hexes and miracles but I think I would like to do a pure melee character with no magic and I'm still trying and failing to play through without dying for the ring. Plus does anyone really think that Dark Souls 2 as shipped is not a full game seeing that its about 50 hours long and has almost endless replay value?

Fantastic news. I've played DS2 more than I played Dark Souls in 2.5 years, and am ready for more.
