Nintendo confirms YouTube affiliate program

Those of you miffed at Nintendo claiming revenue on YouTube videos featuring their games in action will soon have some relief coming your way. Following up on a report that Nintendo's Japanese Twitter account stated that some sort of affiliate program is in the works, Nintendo of America did indeed confirm it was happening.

With this new program (via Gamasutra), revenues will be split between Google, Nintendo and the creator, instead of just strictly to the business partners.

"Nintendo has been permitting the use of Nintendo copyrighted material in videos on YouTube under appropriate circumstances. Advertisements may accompany those videos, and in keeping with previous policy, that revenue is shared between YouTube and Nintendo," a representative reiterated.

"In addition, for those who wish to use the material more proactively, we are preparing an affiliate program in which a portion of the advertising profit is given to the creator. Details about this affiliate program will be announced in the future."

E3 is just around the corner, so the new program could be announced as soon as then.
