Xbox One June update adds external storage, real names, and more

The June update for Xbox One will allow you to use external storage, use real names for friends, and choose an automatic sign-in account.

Fresh off its May update, Microsoft has detailed a few common requests coming in the June update. Specifically, it will enable external storage support, and let you identify your friends by their real names.

With the June update, you'll be able to plug in up to two external hard drives. They need to be 256 GB or larger with USB 3.0. It will also let you copy full games and content in one step for easy storage and transport. If you take a game to a friend's house, you'll have to either sign on (for digital purchases) or insert the disc to verify before it will let you play.

You'll also be able to use real names for your friends, and the update will give more control over who you share with: all friends, a categorized subset, or friends of friends. Real names won't show up in games, though, so no worries on the privacy front.

The update will also add SmartGlass functionality as a OneGuide and universal remote control. If you're in a "supported market," you can view TV listings with the SmartGlass app, set recordings and select DVR content, and reorder your pins. This goes hand-in-hand with an expanded OneGuide, continuing from the expansion that started in limited areas in April. SmartGlass will be able to serve as a hub to see what your friends are up to, whether you're near your console or not.

Finally, you'll be able to choose an automatic sign-in account--which will come in handy for those Kinect-less owners who won't get the facial recognition feature.

Man that autosignin has been KILLING me. Sometimes I'm laying out like a slob on the couch by the time the system is at the dashboard and Im too lazy to sit up and make the Kinect see me.

I got an invite to the Preview program and was accepted last week, but I haven't seen anything to download yet. It just lets me recommend friends to invite and the other button is to unregister.
